What is hydro jetting?
Hydro jetting is a drain cleaning method that forces pressurized water through pipes to remove stubborn blockages caused by grease, tree roots, and mineral scale.
Hydro jetting relies on pressurized water streams, typically between 4,000 and 8,000 pounds per square inch (PSI), to scour the interior walls of residential and commercial drain lines. A plumber inserts a specialized nozzle into the pipe, then pumps water at controlled pressure to break apart and flush out accumulated debris. The process works equally well on grease buildup, mineral deposits, and invasive tree roots that have penetrated sewer lines.
Unlike mechanical snaking, which pulls or pushes a rotating cable through the pipe to break through a single point of blockage, hydro jetting cleans the entire length of the pipe. Snaking may clear a path for water to flow but leaves residual buildup on the pipe walls. Hydro jetting scours those walls, reducing the chance of the same clog reforming quickly and addressing issues throughout the line rather than just at the point of obstruction.
The method is particularly useful in Columbia for properties with chronic drain problems or older cast iron and clay pipes prone to root infiltration and scale accumulation. Plumbers assess pipe material and condition before hydro jetting since extremely old, cracked, or deteriorated pipes can fail under high pressure. Many drain and sewer cleaning providers now offer hydro jetting as a preventive tool for commercial kitchens, septic systems, and residential lateral lines that experience recurring backups.
